This Monday we held a "mother-in" at Rawlco Radio in protest of comments made by the producer of one of their shows. Her blog posts can be read at the following links:

http://www.newstalk650.com/incoming/20080423/children-places-they-dont-belong

The Rally was done as a show of support for Mothers everywhere, who are working to find a balance as both Mothers and Professionals. As third wave feminists, we don't believe a woman must "masculinize" herself to be a success in business or politics. I am a mom. I am always a mom, whether at home OR in my professional life. A mother should not be forced to compartmentalize her life to suit those around her. I am a whole person, mother and professional.

Read this wonderfully insightful post at Mothering Magazines' discussion board for more information on feminisms second and third waves:

http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showpost.php?s=4624ada6ec58343a96d4adf7e242d656&p=11049625&postcount=29

Several news sources covered the event, some with more honesty and integrity than others. You can read the report published by the Star Phoenix here:

http://www.canada.com/saskatoonstarphoenix/story.html?id=e751a3d9-dc8c-4e00-b946-647334423d94&k=91693

One positive thing to come out of the Mother-in was that Amber Jones was invited to "guest blog" on the Rawlco Radio website. Read what she had to say about the situation here:

This past weekend was the PAKOC dog show... and like any good dog photographer I had my camera in hand. I had attended as an exhibitor - so didn't have as many chances to watch and capture as I do when I'm attending as a photographer, but I still managed to get some nice shots.

This particular photograph is my husbands favorite from the weekend. A sweet Pomeranian that was standing ring side, waiting for his turn. I actually did a bit of editing to this shot after uploading it to my iMac... my husband prefers the colour original, but I prefer it post-processing. So I've included both versions. It's sort of a two-fer this week. ;)

As a writer, and a member of a few online writers community, I've watched NaNoWriMo grow from an idea, to an incredible mecca. It attracts hopefuls and professionals alike. More than a few writers have turned their NaNoWriMo manuscripts into viable book projects... so I suppose it was only a matter of time before Photographers would claim something along these lines as their very own. Thus SoFoBoMo - Solo Photo Book Month.

Personally I've never had any interest in participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I write Canine non-fiction, and occasionally cover general pet care. However, the idea of SoFoBoMo does call to me. It could be an interesting prospect... and one that I believe deserves some serious thought.

SoFoBoMo calls for a "fuzzy" month... The idea is that you choose a 31 day period that begins any time from April 1, and ends no later than May 31. Doing a fuzzy month rather than a set scheduled month (NaNoWriMo is in November, I believe) allows for more participants considering this is the first year for the event.

So I'll think on it.

Any thoughts? Please feel free to share. I'd love to hear them.
